Spring (April thru May)

The shallow, shoreline waters of Lake Ontario warm rapidly during the early spring. The numerous creeks, bays and Genesee River also provide warm run off water to help even more. Adding all this up equals hot springtime fishing off Rochester.

These warmer waters attract thousands of hungry trout and salmon annually. This offers  prime fishing for trophy Brown Trout (Monsters over 18 pounds are taken here every year) along with Coho salmon, Rainbow (steelhead) trout and late April , the mighty Chinook (king) salmon.

Most trout are in the 5-8 pound range with kings in the teens. Double and triple hook ups, at one time, are common!

Summer (June thru late August)

Summer offers a variety of sport fishing on Lake Ontario. Brown trout and Lake trout remain within a few miles of shore. The Lake Trout fishery is tremendous during June and can provide non stop action. Lakers over 30" are common and giants over 20 pounds are taken every week.

The offshore fishery is on fire. Chinook (king) salmon and Rainbow (steelhead) trout roam the depths, offshore, in search of baitfish schools and colder water. These salmon commonly weight 15-20 pounds, with 25+ pound kings taken regularly. Skyrocketing steelhead are famous for their acrobatics, often leaping several feet out of the water when hooked.

Fall (September till mid October)

Mature Chinook (king) salmon (up to 40 pounds) return inshore and are "staging"  off river mouths. The Genesee River is a key location for these trophy kings. These salmon are very aggressive and territorial as they prepare for  spawning run. Hang on as these salmon will spool 100+ yards of line from your reel in seconds, and that is only the beginning of the fight. Big Brown trout inhabit these same waters and add to the action. Most salmon are in the 20-30 pound range.
